Danny's recent form in Major Championships continued as he succesfully finished the week at Royal Portrush in a tie for 6th place. Showing the character he is renowned for, Danny ensured he would be playing the weekend after posting a 4 under par 67, after a frustrating 3 over par 74 start on Thursday.
Saturday is often referred to as moving day and that was definintely the case, where Danny tied the new course record with a 6 under par 65 and put him inside the top 10 on the final day of a major championship. His lowest ever round in a major chamionship.
Memories of Augusta in 2016 were in the forefront of Danny's mind, when he was drawned with fellow Englishman and close friend Lee Westwood for the final day. Both started well and were under par before heavy wind and rain came in to make playing conditions for the final groups extremely difficult. Danny battled to a 2 over par 73, and would equal his highest finish in The Open Championship.
